Run the Numbers: Solar Energy Yield Comparison Using PV Watts

Producing the maximum kWh’s per solar panel is one of the most important metrics of a successful Commercial solar project…

…and a key driver of return on investment (ROI). This metric is called the “Solar Energy Yield,” written as the project’s kWh/kW/yr.

PV Booster rooftop tracking system generates the highest Solar Energy Yields (kWh/kW/yr) in Commercial and Industrial (C&I) solar, making it the most powerful rack on the planet. Our results show that by using PV Booster rooftop tracking mount, you can increase the solar energy yield of each solar panel on your solar array by 40-70%.

But don’t just take our word for it, Run the Numbers yourself!

How to Run your Numbers:

We used PV Watts , the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)’s energy production calculator, to calculate solar energy yields using Fixed Mounts vs. the PV Booster Tracking Mount.

Each location compares a Fixed (roof mount) 5-degree tilt with PV Booster, a 1-Axis Backtracking array tilted at 30-degrees, using PVWatt’s default assumptions. Feel free to adjust these assumptions to match your design standards and preferences.

The default assumptions we used in our analysis are as follows:

  • DC System Size (kW): 1

  • Module Type: Standard

  • Array Type: Fixed (roof mount) or 1-Axis Backtracking (PV Booster)

  • System Losses (%): 14.08%

  • Tilt (deg): 5 for Fixed or 30 for PV Booster

  • Azimuth (deg): 180
